Interview with Turkish national team member Paz - "We are not afraid of anyone"

With the CS:GO becoming more and more popular in Turkey, we decided to ask Ahmet "paz" Karahoca, member of Turkish national team a few questions following their convincing win in round one of the TWC 2016 Europen Qualifiers against Uzbekistan.

E-frag:
Hello paz, first of all I want to congratulate you on your win against Uzbekistan in the first round of The World Championship 2016 European Qualifiers. Can you tell us a bit more about how the whole match went from your point of view? Was it easier/harder than you expected, and are you happy with your national team’s performance?

Paz: Thank you! I prefer not to comment on easier/harder part yet they played exactly as we expected. I am happy with the performance as a team.

E-frag:  It was revealed a few days ago that the Turkish national squad will contain three members of the Space Soldiers, with  Can 'XANTARES' Dörtkarde? and Ça?atay 'DESPE' Sedef also joining you. Do you think that with the squad formed around the core of your team Turkey have a good chance to qualify for TWC 2016 LAN Finals, and do you think it would help rise of the CS:GO popularity in your country?

Paz: Last year we missed that chance. We just want to make it happen this year so we created our entire squad carefully. We will give our best to participate in Finals. indeed, CSGO is only growing and I am glad that you are creating events like this.

E-frag: If you manage to qualify for the Group Stage in the Main Qualifier, is there anybody you’d want to play against to prove yourselves or anyone you’d like to avoid, and who do you think are the favorites for the 3 qualifying slots?

Paz: If we manage to earn our spot in  Main Qualifier there is no one we wouldn't want to play against.

E-Frag: We talked about what would earning qualifying slot mean for CS:GO fans in Turkey, but tell us what would it mean for yourself, being able to represent your country on big LAN tournament while wearing your national flag on your jersey. How does playing for your country fare compared to playing with a sponsored team, does it give you additional motivation?

Paz: When it comes to the national flag we are very, very proud. It's an honor to represent our country, wearing that jersey gives us more responsibility and courage. Of course its entirely different for any Turkish player, but when the topic is our country any Turkish citizen can easily turn into the hulk!

E-frag: Let’s go back to your team Space Soldiers. You guys just won ASUS ROG Summer tournament, earning $12,000 dollars which if is your biggest prize in your team history, while beating some pretty strong teams on your way to the title, like Milenium and Epsilon. It is clear that you as a team are constantly improving your performance. So tell us, what do you think is the main reason for that? How have you guys come to this, what did you adjust in your play, and what does this win mean to you?

Paz: We are working hard to improve from day one. As Space Soldiers we are not just a team but a family. We learn from our mistakes and we are to not repeat them. I also want to thanks to our Coach hardstyle who is doing extremely great job for the team.

E-frag: You are also currently competing in The Rising Stars European League, with six wins and only one draw and loss from eight matches. You are in a great spot to secure a great seeding spot for the playoffs, tell us what you think about your chances of winning the title? Do you consider yourself the favorites?

Paz: We are here to win first of all, and we will give our best to do so no matter what. Well, I think we are one of the favorites.

E-frag: With the CS:GO scene developing, and the pool of tournaments constantly expanding, what is your plan for the rest of this year, will you try to focus on online tournaments, or try and attend as many LAN events as possible? Where would you want to see Space Soldiers in this time next year, can you tell us a bit more about your goals?

Paz: We would like to attend LAN tournaments as much as possible. We will try to skip online tournaments whenever we can, due to the ping differences with EU, its really hard to play vs. 20-30 pings most of the time but I think we are doing ok with that. I will tell you more about our goals next time when we talk, as we hope that they will keep growing.

E-frag:
Thank you for this conversation paz, best of luck with both Turkey national team and Space Soldiers. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans for the end of the interview?

Paz: I want to thank everyone that supports me and our team. I want to thank you guys for the interview I'm honored that you spared the time to talk with me.

Turkey will play their next match in the TWC 2016 European Qualifiers on August 17th against Ireland.
